THE COOL GUIDE TO THE COTSWOLDS

The King’s Head Inn
Bledington, near Stow-on-the-Wold

Crowned Pub of the Year 2018 by the Good Pub Guide, this is the original cool Cotswold spot. It was opened by the well-loved local aristo Archie Orr-Ewing and his stylish wife the milliner Nicola de Selincourt, when most of their friends thought they were mad to take on an old rural pub.

Orr-Ewing was behind one of London’s first gastropubs, the North Pole, before deciding to undertake a project back home. It may be effortlessly cool, but this is still your authentic pub on the village green, with low ceilings, crackling fires and craft ales on hand pump.

There are 12 rooms, styled by de Selincourt – think Cole and Son wallpaper and lush rugs. Sunday lunch is legendary, with roasts to share served on carving boards.
